3 Spring Cleaning Chores A Lot Of Dads Forget

Spring is here, and it's time to get ready for the warm weather that's ahead. Some of the chores require heavy lifting and getting on ladders, tasks that typically fall to Dad. Cleaning the exterior of the home, helping flip mattresses, and cleaning the top of the kitchen cabinets are must-do tasks to refresh the home.

So, Dad, there's no time like the present to think about the chores that need to be done as the temperatures rise. Following are some of the spring cleaning chores you'll want to get ready to work on.

Flipping The Mattresses

Mattresses are made from materials that comfortably support the body during sleep. But those same materials compress over time due to the amount of weight the body puts on them. If a mattress isn't flipped regularly, it starts to take on the shape of the person sleeping on it, creating a depression that can become uncomfortable. A depression is usually permanent, which requires replacement to regain comfort. The simplest solution to avoid this problem is to turn the mattress during the fall and spring as part of the spring cleaning chores, provided the mattress isn't a pillow-top or a similar style that can't be flipped.

Dad, this is a job you need to be around for as the mattress is heavy, and your strength is needed. If your mattress is newer, however, it may have a distinct top side and thus not be flippable.

Changing HVAC Filters

HVAC filters prevent dust from getting into ducts and spreading around the home. In turn, the filters can get clogged with debris over time, requiring replacement. Filters should be checked regularly and changed when they're dirty. The dirtier the filter, the less effective it is at keeping dust from flowing through the home. Spring is a good time of year to start with a fresh filter as the home is opened up more to the outside air. You can do this by yourself, Dad, but the kids can watch to see how it's done.

Clean The Tops Of The Kitchen Cabinets

Cooking grease and dust combine to make a nasty film on top of kitchen cabinets and the refrigerator. You may not be aware of its existence due to it being out of sign and out of mind. This becomes a problem when you take into consideration that this film holds onto odors that aren't pleasant. Letting it build up gives the kitchen a stagnant odor of meals from the past. This is a job that's best for dads, as they have the strength and reach to safely get the job done. Everyone else can stay down on the floor and hand cleaning supplies up as needed.

These are some of the spring home cleaning chores that might be easy to forget because they're labor-intensive. But they do need to get done to prevent small problems from turning into big ones. Get the family involved to give you support and speed up the task so you relax and enjoy the spring season.
