What causes acid reflux? When the same question is asked to different persons, the answers may vary to a great extent. It is so because there are various causes that trigger GERD disease. One of the obvious causes is the hiatus hernia or faulty valve. Due to the faulty valve, the acid produced in the stomach goes up through esophagus reaching to the back of the tongue making the patient feel bitter test. Lifestyle factors

Smoking and consuming alcohol are also quite well known GERD disease causes. These are not all favorable for the acid reflux patients. Obesity or being overweight also causes acid reflux. Many people overeat or eat large meals. This also leads to acid reflux. Eating meals or snacking before bedtime is not a healthy habit. For the acid reflux patients, it could be the reason of acid reflux resulting into immense discomfort.

Taking certain medicines such the muscle relaxers, ibuprofen, and aspirin etc may cause acid reflux. Also, the blood pressure medications tend to cause GERD. Before taking prescription medicines for acid reflux, the patients are advised to consult their physician as this can increase the complications.

Home remedies for acid reflux

Though the prescription medicines in the drug stores are easily available, there is no need to frequent the stores as the home remedies for acid reflux work quite effectively. There are various home remedies available to eliminate acid reflux. Moreover, it is quite easy and simple to prepare these remedies. The ingredients can also be purchased from the grocery without undergoing any difficulties. Here are some home remedies for acid reflux:

Lemon juice with warm water: A cup of lemon juice with warm water can cure acid reflux. This can be taken before 15 to 20 minutes of taking food.

Aloe vera juice: Fresh or unprocessed aloe vera juice is very much effective in reducing the symptoms of acid reflux.

Baking soda: Drinking a tablespoon of baking soda dissolved in a cup of water can do the trick. This may not taste good, but it is one of the most widely used home remedies for acid reflux.

Apple cider vinegar: Consuming 1 to 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar can prove to be a great help to eliminate GERD.

Also, there are various other home remedies such as raw almonds and red apple etc. However, mere knowledge of these home remedies would be of no use unless it is brought into practice.
