How Churches Can Build Better Men Through Discipleship

While most churches preach about faith and making heaven, sadly, not many teach discipleship. This is a paramount lifestyle that not only ministers but also the congregation should strive towards. A society with men who are ready to practice this lifestyle is a society filled with responsible men.

But what is discipleship, and why is it essential to building better men?

What discipleship means

A disciple is one who follows the teachings, life, and aim of someone else until they become like that person. It's all about practicing the life of Christ and becoming like him.

Discipleship is a conscious and deliberate process. It involves practically teaching individuals not just about the good things of the kingdom but also about how to live like Christ daily.

Aside from watching football and cracking jokes, men should also fellowship with their Christian friends. As husbands, fathers, office executives, or employees, men who live the life of Christ daily will better execute their roles.

And since men are a critical part of each society and the head of homes, men who are disciples will be able to shoulder responsibility, radiate kindness, and promote discipline throughout that community.

5 steps to promote discipleship in your male congregation

Knowing why discipleship is crucial among men, follow these tips to build more disciples in your local church.

1. Preach it in your sermons

Your Sunday sermons are your best opportunity to teach discipleship as you're sure of having a large congregation. Create sermons that will evangelize, establish, and equip your men in this lifestyle. Be their coach right from the pulpit, not just their preacher.

2. Choose a few men around you

You can't do it alone. You need help. So who among your congregation is worthy of taking on this task with you? Choose a few exemplary men to whom you can pour your life, who will, in turn, pour it out to the rest of the congregation like a ripple effect.

3. Invest in a training program

Are you an excellent preacher but find it challenging to teach and make disciples? Consider going for a discipleship training program and become a part of a leadership community that attempts to ignite this movement. A few of your select members who you believe have what it takes can also go for the training.

4. Create group meetings for the men

While Sunday services are your first point of contact, you don't get to sit one-on-one with your members. Smaller group meetings like bible study meetings are unique as they help you achieve your goals quickly. You can discuss with the group, and they can ask questions about what bothers them.

5. Instill discipline

Sadly, many churches do not say much about sin. When they do, they do not go into details. Help your men to understand the things they may be doing as fathers, husbands, work colleagues, or business executives that may not sit right with God. Teach them to practice discipline wherever they find themselves, not only in church or at home.

Final words

Many people go to church, but only a few are disciples. Only a handful live the life of Christ or even that of their pastors. Making your congregation see the light can help build a community of responsible and disciplined men, women, and children.
