3 Fun Summer Water Activities For Large Groups

Making a Splash: Three Water Activities to Amp Up Your Family's Summer Fun

As a dad always on the lookout for exciting summer plans, I know the challenge of keeping the family both cool and entertained during those dog days. We've all been there: kids glued to devices, everyone feeling a bit stir-crazy. That's why this year, I'm geared up to dive into the water and bring everyone along for the ride, from the tiny tots to the tough teens and even the "I'm just here to relax" grandparents.

Cliff Jumping: Leap Into Fun

Now, cliff jumping might sound a bit extreme—like something out of an action movie rather than a family outing. But hear me out! Last summer, we found a spot that was just right for us. It wasn't too high, had clear water below, and the view was something out of a postcard. It's important to check the safety boxes first: depth of water, no hidden rocks, and an easy way to climb back up. Once you find that perfect spot, the thrill of leaping off and splashing down is unbeatable. Plus, watching Grandma muster the courage to jump and seeing the kids cheer her on—priceless!

Paddleboarding: Stand, Sit, Splash!

If you're looking for something a bit calmer, paddleboarding is the way to go. It's fantastic because you can take it at your own pace. Last year, my youngest spent more time swimming than standing on the board, but hey—that's part of the fun! It's a bit of a balancing act at first, but once you get the hang of it, gliding over the water feels like you're walking on it. And if you do tip over? It’s just a refreshing dip, and you’re back on the board before you know it.

River Rafting: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

River rafting is the ultimate group activity. Imagine this: you and your crew navigating the rapids, paddling in sync (or something resembling sync), while laughing through the splashes. We tried it last summer, and let's just say it was an adventure. Between my wife's overly cautious paddling and my teen's daredevil moves, we had quite the time. But by the end of it, we had worked together, laughed together, and the kids were already planning next year’s trip. That said, the best rafting trips for large groups will allow at least 6-8 people per boat, that way you can all experience the adrenaline rush together. Keep in mind the time of year as well. The earlier in the season, the calmer the rapids; however, as the season goes on and the snow melt travels the mountain, the more powerful the rapids.

Why Water Activities?

There’s something magical about water that brings people together. It’s a blend of excitement and relaxation. Plus, after months of juggling work, school, and everything in between, there’s nothing like the liberating feeling of floating in a river or jumping into a lake. More than 60% of Americans report being stressed from work, so why not wash off that stress with a bit of aquatic adventure?

Building Bonds

Choosing activities like rafting isn’t just about the thrill; it’s about reconnecting. In today’s world, where most of our interactions are digital, getting everyone together for a real adventure can make a world of difference. It strengthens bonds, creates memories, and lets us step back from our hectic lives to simply enjoy being together.

Wrapping Up

As the summer heats up, don’t let the opportunity to create lasting memories with your family slip by. Whether it's the adrenaline rush of cliff jumping, the calm cruise of paddleboarding, or the teamwork of rafting, water activities offer something for everyone. So grab those swimsuits, slap on the sunscreen, and get ready to make a splash with your family this summer. Who knows? It might just become your new family tradition.
