Are You Eligible For AARP Auto Insurance?
As an AARP member, you're already aware of the many benefits of joining. But did you know that many insurance companies offer programs for AARP members?
What is an AARP Auto Insurance Program?
AARP Auto Insurance Program offers huge discounts and benefits to its members. The AARP believes that its members are responsible, experienced drivers, and therefore, they need an auto insurance package that reflects that.
The basic level of coverage is called the Advantage Program, and those willing to pay for more benefits can get the Advantage Plus Program. Here is what each plan offers, and a brief explanation of key terms follows:
Lifetime Renewability: Guarantees policy renewability as long as you are a member of the AARP, you can drive, and pay your premiums. This applies even if you have had accidents or traffic convictions. There are a few state-specific stipulations, so talk with your agent about this.
12-Month Rate Protection: Insurance prices are only reviewed or re-rated after 12 months. Your rate may decrease at policy renewal, but if it does increase, it will be at a lower rate than the market.
New Car Replacement Coverage: Refunds you if your car was totaled within the first 15 months or 15,000 miles (whichever comes first) after acquiring it. If the vehicle cannot be fixed, then you will be provided with a replacement car of the same make and model.
Lifetime Car Repair Assurance: Provides a vetted repair service for a covered claim.
RecoverCare: Should you be injured in an accident, then the policy will provide $2,500 to cover transportation, cooking, cleaning, house chores, and other help you might require after the accident.
First Accident Forgiveness: Under this coverage, your first accident won't increase your premium.
One Deductible: If you have insured two cars with AARP and they are both involved in a collision, then you will only need to file one deductible.
Disappearing Deductible: Your deductible decreases (down to $0) each year you don't have a collision.
Waiver of Deductible for a Not-At-Fault Accident: If the other driver caused the accident, then the collision deductible will be waived. Talk with your agent because some states may have different regulations.
$100 Deductible Reduction: You can choose to have your car repaired at any shop, but if you use an authorized shop, your deductible can be reduced by $100. This may also vary state-by-state.
AARP Emergency Roadside Assistance: A 24/7 program to help you should you get stranded on the side of the road.
Towing Insurance Coverage: If your vehicle is inoperable, this coverage offers a tow to the nearest repair shop. It's available even if you were not involved in a collision or accident.
Policyholders can gain further discounts by participating in the following programs:
● TrueLane is a telematics program that monitors your driving habits. Just signing up for it earns you a five percent discount on your premiums. Further reductions to your premium can be earned by exhibiting safe driving habits. Still, your premiums could increase if you show habits like harsh braking, rapid acceleration, and late-night driving.
● The Driver Safety Program is an optional course that is available in 35 states. In some states, the course can be taken online. Completion of the course will earn you discounts on your plan.
