What Men Should Know About Giving Flowers

Flowers have always been an incredibly sweet and thoughtful gift which are loved by almost anyone who receives them. Whether they are being given as an apology, a celebration or as a thank you, there is nothing like the joy which a bouquet of beautiful flowers can bring. I was in Pearson’s Gifting just last week picking out a nice bunch of flowers for my mother and, as many men probably do, asking for some assistance in making my choice. The girls in the shop were so helpful and they shared with me some tips on how to buy flowers in the future, which I wanted to share with all the fellas out there.  

Know Your Girl  

In most cases you will be buying flowers for someone who you know well, and that means that you should get an idea of what kind of flowers they like. There are thousands of different types of flowers and colors to choose from, so it does make sense to get a bouquet which taps into what the recipient really loves. This may be carnations, tulips, roses or lilies, and if you find out exactly what they like first, you can be sure to buy the perfect bouquet.  

Understanding The Meaning 

Over the years we have learned that certain flowers have connotations towards a particular mood or event and it is worth getting to know what each type of flower signifies. For example red roses indicate deep love, white lilies show sophistication, gerberas are happy flowers which are great as a ‘get well’ gift and orchids are a sign of elegance and style. Learn a little about which occasions certain flowers work best with and then making your choice using that as a guide.  

All Filler  

 If you are buying a pre-arranged bouquet of flowers, the easiest option, then you should ensure that they have a healthy amount of flowers within them. Green grasses and stems are used to fill out a bouquet and they help to balance the colors of the flowers and the stems. Unfortunately you do find that some florists overdo the filler and this can massively detract from the beauty of the principal flowers in the arrangement.

Cost  

An expensive bouquet of flowers doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be the best gift, and the value is very often lost on the recipient. If you are on a budget then look for seasonal flowers which will be lower in cost and try to arrange them on your own in a vase to further reduce costs, there are many YouTube video guides to help you with this. Very few people look at a bunch of flowers and could tell you the cost of them, so don’t get hung up on finding the most expensive arrangement that is out there.  

Delivery Always Best  

Handing someone some flowers is of course a lovely gesture but there is nothing that beats a knock at the door, and some flowers waiting to surprise your lady on the other side of that door.  For a real treat you can have the flowers delivered to her office or workplace, where the world will see just how much someone thinks of her.
