Becoming a father brings a lot of changes in a man's life. A lot of responsibilities and rewards come with that special title. Raising a kid from birth to adulthood is definitely not an easy task, and many dads will want to know how to go about it. Fatherhood means sharing each and every resource you have, including time.  

Every dad is different just like the kids are. Some are serious, others sporty, playful artsy, and so on. Meaning what is considered good parenting will also vary. There are a number of things that dads can adhere to as they strive to become better fathers.

 

Spending Quality Time With Your Kids

Being a dad is not just about providing for your kids, there is more to that. If you become too busy for your children, they will feel neglected no matter what you say or how much you spend on them. Kids feel loved and treasured when their dad spends quality time with them.  

You can decide to go for nature walks, go shopping for their personal items, walk into a furniture manufacturing company and allow them to choose the furniture they like for their bedrooms and any other activity that will involve them. Remember kids grow so fast, any missed opportunity with them will be lost forever. 

 Research shows that 48 percent of dads spend very little time with their children. Avoid the habit of being glued to your phone when with kids. It is good to maintain eye contact when with your kids, this will enable them to get the message your eyes are passing.

 

Being A Role Model To Your Kids

Fathers will always be role models to their kids whether they like it or not. Girls who spend quality time with their dads and get treated well will grow up knowing how they deserve to be treated by men in the future. Sons can also learn a few things from their dad, for example how to be responsible, honest, and humble. Let us look at some of the ways a dad can be a good role model.

●     Through healthy living. Fathers can set a good example for their kids by exercising regularly and eating properly. Obesity can lead to kids being depressed and sick.

●     Through volunteering. A dad can set a good example to his kids by getting out of the community, together with their families, and volunteering their time and resources to serve others.

●     Through self-control. A good dad should be careful about how they release stress in Infront of their children. He should be able to control his temper when around kids.

●     Being respectful and ready to listen. Kids can learn how to be confident when they are respected for who they are and being given a chance to express their own thoughts.

Showing Your Kids Affection

Nothing beats the feeling of being accepted, loved, and wanted. Kids feel secure when they get all that from their family members. You can show your kids affection in the following ways.

●     Hugging them and Kissing them. As a dad, always strive to hug and kiss your kids as often as you can. Kids grow so fast and once they are teenagers, you cannot do some of the things done to them while they are kids. You can read the books while they are seated on your lap with your arm around them.

●     Saying "I love you" to them. Many dads find it hard to express their emotions verbally to their kids. These three magic words should be told to kids as many times as possible. It becomes difficult to tell kids such words as they grow up, so do it as much as possible when they are young.

 

Balancing Discipline With Acts Of Love

A lot of dads are known for being disciplinarians in the family. Discipline is very important in any kid's life because they will test your boundaries from time to time to see how far they can push things. But as you discipline your kids, remember to balance it with acts of love.  

Don't be afraid to raise your voice or threaten to punish them when necessary, but afterward make a point to talk with them and reconnect. A good dad doesn't shy away from affection and emotion when necessary.
